Xiaomi, the ‘Apple of the East’ has launched some of the most impressive devices, most of them being budget-centric. The most popular smartphone series from Xiaomi is the ‘RedMi’ series. Last year in November, the Redmi Note 3 was launched and well, everyone knows how much popularity it gained. Breaking all the sales record, this phone really impressed everyone. Now, Xiaomi is back with a bang with a new Redmi device – the Xiaomi Redmi Pro! Well, it is really weird that the company didn’t follow the previous naming system as everyone was expecting the Redmi Note 4 to launch. Anyways, new name, new design, new features and of course everything new 😀
XIAOMI REDMi PRO – WHAT IT OFFERS?
Well, the best way to describe this device will be – Budget Flagship! The features that this device features are really amazing at a price under $300. The main USP of this device is the dual camera setup on the back. For the very first time, Xiaomi has experimented this stuff in any of its devices. Interestingly, the RedMi Pro packs a 13MP Sony IMX258 camera + 5MP Samsung sensor on the back. (Hmm.. Sony + Samsung ! ) Between these two cameras is the dual LED Flash. Well, as we’re talking about the camera, let us talk in detail.
On the rear, you’ll find a 13MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and PDAF. Along with 5MP camera, Xiaomi says that the rear camera setup can produce DSLR-like images. The camera features include Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR ,and Panorama. On the front, we have a 5MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.
NOT FINISHED YET! KEEP READING !!!!
Now, coming to the screen, the Xiaomi Redmi Pro comes with a gorgeous 5.5-inch OLED display. This makes it the first device under $300 price tag to feature an OLED display. You’ll get a pixel density of 401ppi. Talking about the processor, the RedMi Pro has a MediaTek Helio X20/25 chip, clocked at 2.1, 2.3 and 2.5GHz for Standard, High, and Exclusive Edition respectively. Also, there is Mali-T880 GPU under the hood. Well, likewise the Redmi Note 3, we can expect a Snapdragon variant also and it will be really interesting to see which Snapdragon chip the RedMi Pro will feature. It seems Xiaomi has really thought of the memory as we have 3 different memory options – 128 GB with 4 GB RAM and 32/64 GB with 3 GB RAM. Keep in mind that you can expand the storage up to 128GB but there is a hybrid slot. This means you will have to sacrifice your 2nd SIM for the sake of MicroSD card!
We finally have the USB Type-C port and a massive 4050 mAh battery. The battery is non-removable. Well, finally coming to the pricing, here is how the different variants will be priced –
- Helio X20 (3GB + 32GB) at CNY 1,499 (roughly Rs. 15,100, $225, £170 and AU$300)
- Helio X25 (3GB + 64GB) at CNY 1,699 (roughly Rs. 17,100, $255, £194 or AU$ 340)
- Helio X25 (4GB + 128GB) at CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 20,200, $300, £230 or AU$400)
So, the handset indeed is solid, both in terms of externals as well as internals. Are you buying ( or waiting to!) the Xiaomi Redmi Pro? Let us know in the comments section 🙂
